(n.) the joyful, intense anticipation that comes from imagining future pleasures.
Nothing beats the anticipation of an upcoming escape from our normal routine. The thought of an approaching long weekend is even enough to get us through the craziest of weeks. I personally love having some sort of getaway to look forward to, no matter the size of the trip. The change in scenery does wonders for the soul. Here are five reasons why I love even the smallest of getaways:
1. The Daydreaming
The slightest vision of what your next holiday is going to be can take your mind off the toughest day. Take a five minute break and daydream of the sand between your toes.
2. The Planning
The process of planning your next getaway can be fun and rewarding. Preparing for your next vacation can sometimes be the start of your unwinding.
3. The Anticipation
“Anticipation is sometimes more exciting than actual events”. This quote by Ana Monnar pretty much sums it up!
4. The Trip
This is of course the most important reason to love getting away – the actual trip! Enjoy it and breathe it in. Relax, let loose, take pictures and explore.
5. The Memories
The getaway may not last forever, but the memories will. Looking back on a vacation will evoke happy thoughts for years to come.
Early in the week, choose a destination for the upcoming weekend. It can be as simple as a day trip to a small town within an hour drive. Plan ahead and learn about local landmarks, restaurants, cafes, unique shops, parks, etc. Go have fun, take pictures, and make memories.
